FOR THE STAFF ASSOCIATION
TERRY WOODS AWARD
Beginning
Monday, March 19, the Staff Committee will begin accepting nominations for
candidates for the 2006 Terry Woods Award.
Instructions regarding eligibility, nomination, and selection can be found
below, and the nomination petition form can be accessed by clicking on the
link at the bottom of this message. Nominations must be sent to the Staff
Association Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2007.

BACKGROUND:
The Terry
Woods Memorial Fund was established with staff contributions after the
untimely death of Mr. Terence Woods, President of the Staff Association from
1989 to 1991. The intent of the Fund, based on the wishes of Mr. Woods’
widow, Mrs. Margarita Woods, was to support staff interests to which Mr.
Woods dedicated so much of his time and energy.
On April 12,
1994, the Staff Committee decided to establish an award for OAS staff who
distinguish themselves through their extraordinary efforts to improve the
working conditions and employment terms of their colleagues.
The Terry
Woods Award is the highest recognition a staff member can receive for
outstanding service to the staff of the OAS. It consists of a plaque; no
cash prize accompanies this award.
INSTRUCTIONS:
A. ELIGIBILITY:
(1)
OAS staff members or recent staff members are eligible candidates for the
Terry Woods Award.
(2)
Members or alternate members of the current Staff Committee are not eligible
candidates since they will form the Selection Committee for the Award.
(3)
The President of the Staff Association will not be eligible to apply for the
Award until one year after s/he demits office.
B. NOMINATION:
Attached is
a nomination petition form. Nominations must clearly justify, in detail,
how through outstanding service, unusual performance, or exceptional effort,
the nominee has:
(1)
promoted, furthered, and protected the rights and interests of OAS staff;
(2)
contributed to their well-being; or
(3)
improved their working conditions.
C. SELECTION:
The Staff
Committee will serve as the Selection Committee for the Terry Woods Award.
Staff Committee members cannot nominate candidates. Selection of the
recipient of the Terry Woods Award is entirely the province of the Staff
Committee and will be made by simple majority. The Staff Committee may call
on staff members for clarification of nominating statements and/or
additional documentation. The Award shall not be subject to appeal or to
the procedures in Chapter XII of the Staff Rules. No more than two awards
will be bestowed each year.

NOMINACIONES PARA EL PREMIO TERRY WOODS
DE
LA ASOCIACIÓN DEL PERSONAL
A
partir del lunes 19 de marzo, el Comité del Personal comenzará a aceptar
nominaciones para candidatos al Premio
Terry Woods 2006. Las instrucciones en cuanto a elegibilidad,
nominación y selección puede encontrarlas abajo, y el formulario para
nominación puede obtenerlo oprimiendo el enlace al final de este mensaje.
Las nominaciones deben ser enviadas a la Oficina de la Asociación del
Personal a más tardar el lunes 9 de abril de 2007 a las 4:30 p.m. Personal
de las Oficinas de la OEA en los Países pueden enviar sus nominaciones por

ANTECEDENTES:
El
Fondo Conmemorativo Terry Woods se estableció con las contribuciones que
hiciera el personal con motivo del fallecimiento del señor Terence Woods,
quien fuera Presidente de la Asociación del Personal desde 1989 hasta 1991.
Fueron los deseos de doña Margarita Woods, viuda del señor Woods, que este
fondo se dedicara a apoyar los intereses del personal, causa a la que Terry
Woods dedicó gran parte de su tiempo y esfuerzo.
El
12 de abril de 1994 el Comité del Personal decidió establecer un premio para
miembros del personal de la OEA que se hubiesen distinguido por sus
extraordinarios esfuerzos por mejorar las condiciones de trabajo y términos
de empleo de sus colegas.
El
Premio Terry Woods constituye el más alto reconocimiento que un funcionario
o funcionaria puede recibir por servicios extraordinarios al personal de la
OEA. Este consiste en una placa conmemorativa, y no conlleva premio alguno
en efectivo.
INSTRUCCIONES:
A.
ELEGIBILIDAD:
(1)
Aquellas personas que son, o han sido recientemente, miembros del personal
de la OEA.
(2)
No será elegible ningún miembro, ya sea titular o suplente, del actual
Comité del Personal, ya que corresponde a dicho Comité llevar a cabo la
selección del ganador del premio.
(3)
El Presidente de la Asociación no será elegible hasta haber cumplido un año
de haber dejado la presidencia.
B.
NOMINACIÓN: Acompaña
a este boletín una papeleta de nominaciones. La nominación deberá estar
claramente justificada, indicando cómo por medio de servicios
extraordinarios, desempeño poco común, o esfuerzos excepcionales, el
individuo nominado ha:
(1)
promovido, avanzado o protegido los derechos e intereses del personal de la
OEA;
(2)
contribuido al bienestar; o
(3)
mejorado sus condiciones de empleo.
C.
SELECCIÓN: El
Comité del Personal servirá como Comité de Selección para el Premio Terry
Woods. Los miembros del Comité del Personal no pueden nominar candidatos.
La selección del recipiente del Premio Terry Woods es competencia exclusiva
del Comité del Personal y se elegirá por simple mayoría. El Comité del
Personal podrá solicitar aclaración y/o documentación adicional a los
miembros del personal. La designación del Premio Terry Woods será
inapelable y no estará sujeta a los procedimientos previstos en el Capítulo
XII del Reglamento de Personal. No podrá haber más de dos ganadores por
año.
