El Secretario General, Dr.
César Gaviria, en su discurso de instalación del XXXIV período ordinario de
sesiones de la Asamblea General, hizo un recuento de su gestión iniciada el
15 de septiembre de 1994 resaltando la labor de los funcionarios de la
Secretaría General en los últimos 10 años diciendo, "A lo largo de toda la
década la Organización ha debido funcionar con estrictas limitaciones
financieras y de recursos humanos. La política de personal ofrece hoy mayor
flexibilidad y competitividad. También se llevo a cabo una completa
remodelación de las instalaciones principales de la Organización. Sea esta
la oportunidad para agradecer a todos y a cada uno de los funcionarios de
la Organización su valioso concurso. Sin su compromiso permanente nunca
hubiéramos alcanzado las metas que nos propusimos."

AT THE OPENING SESSION OF THE THIRTY-FOURTH REGULAR SESSION OF THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES

The Secretary General, Dr.
César Gaviria, in his address at the opening session of the Thirty-Fourth
regular session of the General Assembly, offered a review of his term
initiated on September 15, 1994, emphasizing the work of the General
Secretariat staff members in the past 10 years saying, “Throughout the
decade, the Organization has had to operate within rigid financial
constraints and limited human resources. Personnel policy today is more
flexible and competitive. In addition, the Organization’s main facilities
have been completely revamped. Allow me to take this opportunity to thank
each and every staff member of the Organization for his or her valuable
contribution. Without their ongoing commitment, we would never have
achieved the goals that we set for ourselves.”
