HELP FOR HAITI
As you know, Haiti has been
hit very hard this year, first in May by the floods in the area bordering
the Dominican Republic in which more than 1,700 people died, and this month
by Tropical Storm Jeanne.
The northern section of
Haiti, particularly the third largest city, Gonaďves, and other areas like
Port-de-Paix, Chansol, and Trois Rivičres, have experienced tremendous
death, devastation, and displacement due to Jeanne’s flood waters.
It is estimated that the
number of lives lost will reach 2,000, and a quarter of a million persons
are now without shelter. Many other difficulties continue to beset this
region.
At this stage, monetary
donations are the most effective way to help alleviate the crisis in Haiti.
We urge you to send your contributions to account #200663 at the OAS
Staff Federal Credit Union in order to help the victims of the recent
storm. Please make checks
payable to OAS STAFF ASSOCIATION
Thank you for your
solidarity.
Please send your donations
before October 30, 2004.
